Pasar Gede, which is opposite the City Hall of Surakarta in the Sudirman street and Pasar Gede Street is the largest and oldest market in the city of Solo. Pasar Gede during the Dutch colonial era initially was a small market that set up in an area of 10.421 hectares, located at the crossroads of the governor's office which is the Surakarta City Hall now.
Renowned Dutch architect named Ir. Thomas Karsten designed Pasar Gede building. In 1930, the building construction was completed, later called Pasar Gede Hardjanagara. Called Pasar Gede or Large Market because it consists of a large roof in this market. Pasar Gede consists of two buildings separated by road now known as Sudirman street. Both of the building has two floors.
