Explore the Batik Museum of Solo


Solo, one of the city in Central Java, is known by nickname City of Batik. Not surprisingly, the city which has another name Surakarta is often visited by batik lovers to get a batik collection. If you are one of the batik lovers and keen to look for it at Solo, you must visit one of the largest private batik museums in Southeast Asia. The place is Danar Hadi Batik Museum, located in Jl. Brigjen Slamet Riyadi 261.

The museum was founded a batik entrepreneur, namely Santoso Doellah. After the success of the pioneering efforts and dedicate themselves to the Indonesian batik since 1967, founder of the museum which entered the age of 74 years in 2014 began to establish a private museum on October 20th, 2000.

According to one of the Assistant Manager of Museum, Asti Astuti Suryo said the museum was built not only to showcase a collection of the owner but for the mission to preserve batik. Danar Hadi Batik Museum must be built into batik educational facilities and one tourist destination in the city of Surakarta.

"This museum is a private museum established thematically. So, the theme of which is displayed in the museum is based on what happened to Mr. Santoso, from the age of 15 years until now will enter the age of 74 years," he told the media during a visit to Danar Hadi Batik Museum, in Surakarta, recently.

The Danar Hadi name was taken from the name of the wife of the owner, Danarsih, and Hadi from the name of the father-in-law. "Thus, that's how Mr. Santoso respects his wife and father-in-law, it creates the name Danar Hadi as batik company name," he said.

The museum exhibit 600 pieces of ancient batik displayed in 11 rooms. Start with Dutch batik collection room, Keraton (palace), Indonesia, China, India, Soga Genes, to an individual room like Danar Hadi's private room, Memorabilia, Adi Karya, and souvenir gallery that sells batik made by Danar Hadi.

The museum of the past few years in a row was awarded 'Excellence destination' on the Trip Advisor site, and it is open every day. Operational hours from nine in the morning until four thirty in the afternoon, except on August 17th and Islamic holidays. The entry fee ranging from Rp 25 thousand to the public, and Rp15 thousand for the students (indicated by an identity card).
